Beginning in 1951, Clemtex Ltd., located in Houston, Texas, did business as a retailer of corrosion control equipment. Sand for sandblasting contributed to about 40% of Clemtex’s business. In 1985, Clemtex ceased selling the silica sand abrasive used in sandblasting.
Clemtex filed its chapter 11 case on May 29, 2001. Its Plan of Reorganization was confirmed and the Clemtex Silica Settlement Trust (“CSST”) became effective on September 26, 2003.
As of July 1, 2018, Clemtex has received 7,027 claims and has paid $29,007,367.52 to 3,637 claimants.
